Who we are
Built from operating
accountability.
Matthew Gray
Managing Director
Matthew has held enterprise technology and transformation accountability across multi-billion-dollar retail, wholesale and distribution, pharmacy, health insurance and manufacturing environments. His experience spans ASX-listed, private-equity-backed and regulated organisations, including federated networks of hundreds of locations and thousands of independent operators.
He has led through M&A and separation, IPO readiness, platform and operating-model reset, and capital-intensive transformation. His record is grounded in executive accountability: setting direction, governing investment, reshaping teams and supplier ecosystems, and being answerable for operating and commercial outcomes.
Through CGX Enterprise Partners, Matthew works with boards, founders, CEOs and executive teams at points where growth, transformation or cross-border execution has become structurally difficult. His role is to identify the constraint beneath the visible symptoms, restore clarity to authority and decision-making, and leave the organisation better able to execute without ongoing external dependence.

Melanie Cao-Gray
Operations Director
Melanie combines technical depth with commercial market experience across specialty chemicals, advanced materials and industrial supply. A chemist by training with a master's degree in Environmental Management and Sustainability, she has held roles spanning product development, operations, R&D leadership, portfolio management and key-account growth with Caldic, Momentive, BASF and PPG.
Vietnamese-born and Australian-based, Melanie is bilingual in Vietnamese and English. Her particular strength is practical translation across markets: understanding what a business is trying to source, supply or solve, identifying credible capability on the other side of the Australia-Vietnam corridor, and helping both parties determine whether there is a commercially sound basis to proceed.
As Operations Director, she leads CGX EP's operational coordination and supports cross-border opportunity discovery, partner identification, introductions and the practical structure around engagement, drawing in legal, tax or technical specialists where required. Her role is to make the right connection useful, with enough context, discipline and follow-through for both sides to act.

The firm
Operator-led. Restraint-disciplined.
CGX EP works with boards, founders and executive teams at inflection points where the cost of a weak decision is material. Every mandate is led directly by the person accountable for it, with specialist capability added only where the work requires it.
Mandates begin with the decision or structural constraint that matters most. Scope, authority and exit conditions are made explicit from the outset. Advice is tested against capital, operating reality and the organisation's capacity to execute.
CGX EP remains close enough to challenge assumptions and shape the path forward, while leaving ownership where it belongs. A mandate has done its job when the client can move forward with greater clarity, control and confidence, without unnecessary external dependence.
